Complications / Gynecologic Problems
Reproductive disorders in women increase significantly when obesity is a factor. These disorders can include:
- Problems relating to menstruation, including the absence of menstruation, light or infrequent menstrual periods, or abnormally heavy bleeding during menstruation
- Increased risk for infertility and failure to ovulate, as well as a poor response to fertility drugs
- Increased risk for miscarriage, both spontaneously and after infertility treatment, and
- Pregnancy related conditions, specifically increased prevalence of pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, cesarean section, and Down syndrome
